Richie Bravo has certainly enjoyed more glamorous times. Today he appears in small venues in the Italian seaside resort of Rimini during the winter, attempting to preserve something from the best days of his life as a singer of schlager, German easy-listening, sentimental pop songs. He is a restless spirit, constantly in motion, always a few steps ahead of himself, until suddenly the daughter he had almost forgotten appears in front of him. In RIMINI Ulrich Seidl presents a loose family group through three generations, evoking a sensation of time passing and transformations to the beat of middle-of-the-road sentimentality.

A woman emigrates from the East to the West, a man from the West to the East. Both of them are driven to move elsewhere, to a place where they can find jobs, a meaning for their lives and their own place in society. In his new film Import Export Ulrich Seidl follows two paths through the inhospitable modern world, telling the stories of two young people who trip up on reality's rough edges. Shooting, with Ed Lachman and Wolfgang Thaler behind the camera, is nearly finished, and Import Export should be completed in the spring of 2007.

Ulrich Seidl, bisher bekannt für seine provokanten Milieustudien an den Grenzen des Dokumentarfilms, hat das Genre gewechselt. In seinem ersten Spielfilm Hundstage hat der Filmemacher sechs Episoden lose miteinander vernetzt und zu einem unbequemen Sittenbild kleinbürgerlicher Durchschnittlichkeit verdichtet.
