The London Open City Festival hands its Open City Award 2019 to Sebastian Brameshuber’s Cinéma du Réel-winner MOVEMENTS OF A NEARBY MOUNTAIN. About their choice, the jury said that the winning film exemplifies an assured coming together of form and content to craft an intimate portrait of a character whose daily life illuminates a global conversation about labour, movement and capitalism.

“A film that makes you happy”, wrote the jury of the Political Award about their choice to give the prize to Sebastian Brameshuber’s MOVEMENTS OF A NEARBY MOUNTAIN at the Hamburg Filmfest. The award, sponsored by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, comes with a cheque for € 5,000.

A mountain in motion ... Only a few days after winning the jury's Special Prize of the Vienna Film Award at the Viennale, MOVEMENTS OF A NEARBY MOUNTAIN by Sebastian Brameshuber receives the 3sat-Dokumentarfilmpreis at the 43rd Duisburger Filmwoche.

As the festival year draws to a close, the IDFA showcases two of the most successful Austrian documentaries of the year: EARTH by Nikolaus Geyrhalter (Masters) and MOVEMENTS OF A NEARBY MOUNTAIN by Sebastian Brameshuber (Best of Fests). The German-Austrian co-productions HEIMAT IS A SPACE IN TIME by Thomas Heise (Masters) and BORN IN EVIN by Maryam Zaree’s (Best of Fests) are also on the Amsterdam program.

Die Publikationsreihe der im Herbst 2019 lancierten Film-und Theaterbühne LE STUDIO eröffnet mit einer Ausgabe, die sich dem jungen Oeuvre des Filmemachers Sebastian Brameshuber widmet und seine drei langen Dokumentarfilme und vier kürzeren, experimentellen Arbeiten kartografiert. Unter dem Titel BILDER, FALTEN verfolgt das Buch die Fährten des Künstlers, die in die Türkei, nach Nigeria, oder an seine eigenen Wurzeln ins Salzkammergut, ins Innenleben von Bergen und Automotoren oder auf die Balkone von Minaretten führen.

Die Projekte der Wiener Panama Film sind fiktional, dokumentarisch oder hybrid; die künstlerischen Handschriften individuell. Der Katalog der 2018 von David Bohun und Lixi Frank gegründeten Produktionsfirma ist (nicht zuletzt coronabedingt) klein, aber fein: Die ersten drei Filme eroberten internationale Startplätze in Berlin oder Nyon, für Nachschub ist gesorgt. 2023 verspricht zwischen Dreharbeiten in Wien, Drehvorbereitungen u.a. in Belarus und Verwertungsstrategien für eine fertiggestellte Koproduktioen ein dynamisches Jahr zu werden. David Bohun ist einer von 20 jungen europäischen PRODUCERS ON THE MOVE, die European Film Promotion wie jedes Jahr anlässlich des Festivals von Cannes zum grenzüberschreitenden Austausch einlädt.
