“A film that makes you happy”, wrote the jury of the Political Award about their choice to give the prize to Sebastian Brameshuber’s
Movements of a Nearby Mountain at the Hamburg Filmfest. The award, sponsored by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, comes with a cheque for € 5,000.
Here’s an excerpt of the jury statement:
It is a film that captivates and also simply makes you happy. Its themes draw from the big players of our time: globalization,
capitalism, migration, exploitation of raw materials and recycling. Yet director Sebastian Brameshuber focuses on one protagonist
and only a few others, telling a short but powerful story full of surprising twists. He approaches his characters with great
respect and without showcasing them, thus allowing room for imagination.
