Karl Markovics received the prestigious Heart of Sarajevo for Best Film award for Breathing, his debut film as a director. The film’s main actor, Thomas Schubert, got the jury’s nod as Best Actor and a kiss from Angelina Jolie who presented the prize.

On behalf of his co-jurors Alberto Barbera (Italy), Zana Marjanovic (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Michele Ohayon (USA) and Razvan Radulescu (Romania) Jury president Ari Folman (Israel, director of Waltz With Bashir) presented Karl Markovics with the Sarajevo’s Best Film prize which comes with the added bonus of a €25.000 cheque.

In addition to the Heart of Sarajevo for Best Actor prize (€2.500), Breathing also received the CICAE award from the International Confederation of Art Cinemas means support in terms of distribution, exhibition and audience outreach through a network of 3000 cinemas.
