In Vienna in the 1950s, Karl Ratzer, the child of two Roma Auschwitz survivors, taught himself to play the guitar and quickly rose to became an acclaimed world jazz star in the U.S., eventually touring the globe with Chet Baker. However, his eccentric personality and excessive drug use landed him in a hospital psychiatric ward, where, faced with a choice between life and death, he decided to "trust God".
