16th century. The mountain Erzberg: Deep above in its shafts, it hides the mysterious "Blooms of Iron" (aragonite crystals). Again and again, young men find their death while searching for these treasures of stone to give their lovers. Late 20th century. Barbara, a student in Vienna, is going to her home village of Eisenerz in order to do research about the saga of the demiurge Gasteiger. She soon meets with resistance. No one is quite willing to stir up the past. In particular Senta Wagner, the mother of her childhood sweetheart, seems to watch over the history of Eisenerz and its secrets as the administrator of the local museum. Hans, who is still quite fond of Barbara, dreams of a career as a rock musician. However, he and his band, the "Aliens", are fairly unsuccessful. Their first performance outside of Eisenerz is a disaster. Without the desperate Hans' knowledge, his mother uses her "good connections" to the mysterious powers. Something strange must be going on when Hans suddenly becomes an excellent singer. In his despair, Hans has made a pact without fully realizing with whom. Gasteiger comes into action.
