Cinema Austria: the first 112 years

Frederick Baker
The first ever feature-length film essay telling the story of Austrian cinema from the Austro-Hungarian Empire to the present-day. From Luise Kolm, one of the world’s first ever female directors, to the arthouse stars Michael Haneke, Stefan Ruzowitzky, Ulrich Seidl and Jessica Hausner. The film explores cinema as a projection of the complex relationship between Austrian national identity and individual actors, directors and producers over the century, both inside and outside present-day Austria, from Hedy Lamarr, Paula Wessely, Billy Wilder, Otto Preminger and Michael Glawogger.
