DOCUMENTARY
Der Traum der bleibt
The Dream that Remains
Austria's largest housing complex is situated in the northeast of Vienna. 8000 people live in the 2400 flats of this social
housing complex, built 20 years ago.
When Mrs. Z. moved in with her seven children, she was happy with her new home. After two more children she became a single
mother like many others there. She likes the place. Mrs. G. still lives together with her divorced husband. Brutality was
the grounds for divorce. It's a good place to live. Mrs. W. was engaged in a lawsuit with the city of Vienna. Almost 40 million
ATS for blown-up rents were payed back. Three people approached her in the middle of the night to say thank you. Mrs. D. moved
in because her ex-husband had battered her children. Her son started taking drugs. Her new partner is from Yugoslavia. She
is annoyed because foreigners demand everything for themselves. 1800 children and young people live here. Building a campfire
is a criminal act. Mr. D. is caretaker and vice party district chairman. He thinks all that's missing to be happy is a prolongation
of the underground network. The architect is glad that he could create a building estate without cars.
